"The goal of our projects and trips is to make young people aware of what is happening beyond their borders and discover the world in a fun and easily accessible way."

Director Fairaway

Cross Your Borders

We are a youth organisation, which has been organising interactive educational projects about our global society on secondary schools in the Netherlands and Flanders. On a yearly basis, we implement over 250 projects ranging from 2 to 4 school days, reaching over 40,000 students from 12 to 18 years old. During school holidays we organise experience trips to developing countries, under the name of Fairaway.

We work according to the principle ‘peer-to-peer’: all activities are coordinated by a team of 130 enthusiastic students from vocational schools from all over the country, as interns or volunteers. Through fun games and assignments they guide the students through various societal and global topics. The organisation is led by a permanent team of 15 employees. Visit www.crossyourborders.nl

"No matter how much you learn about developing countries from books and documentaries, you can’t beat a real life experience!"

Travel guide Fairaway

During our educational projects we often received comments from students saying: “All this information about these developing countries is super interesting, but we would like to see these countries with our own eyes.”

In 2014, we organised a pilot trip to Uganda, as a response to the growing request from students, teaming up with the Willem de Zwijger College in Bussum, and De Breul in Zeist. It turned out to be a huge success. In 2014, ‘Cross Your Borders abroad’ first saw the light of day. The name Fairaway was first introduced in 2015. The focal point for our trips is to gain valuable experience. We try, like in our educational projects, to find the perfect balance between fun and education.

We have organised the following experience trips:

2015.05 Tanzania 9P
2015.08 Tanzania 6P
2015.12 Tanzania 7P
2016.05 Tanzania 9P
2016.07 Tanzania 13P
2016.12 Tanzania/Kenya 8P
2017.05 Tanzania/Kenya 8P
2017.07 Tanzania/Kenya 11P
2017.10 Tanzania/Kenya 10P
2018.05 Tanzania/Kenya 17P

We have organised the following school trips:

"Thanks to the trip my daughter realises that there is more to the world than just the Netherlands."

Fairaway trips are guided by two Cross Your Borders employees. These are well-educated young people with university degrees between the ages of 22-32. They have extensive experience travelling to various countries in different continents and are familiar with guiding youth groups. During the trip, they will be available and near the group 24/7. In all countries we work with local partners. They always make sure that local guides are available to accompany the group. These guides are familiar with the environment, local population and are able to help out with translations if necessary. Below you’ll find an overview with all of our travel guides.
